Today I’m going to share some really important information for people with autoimmune or inflammatory disorders.

An autoimmune disorder can occur when your immune system starts attacking healthy cells, and it can lead to a lot of damage and inflammation. Many autoimmune disorders start in the gut.

Your body has protective mechanisms to keep pathogens from invading the gut. But, pathogens may be allowed to pass through the intestinal barrier if you have intestinal permeability, also known as leaky gut. This can lead to someone developing an autoimmune disease.

There is a certain protein called zonulin that regulates intestinal permeability, and it’s typically elevated in autoimmune diseases or inflammatory diseases.

To find the best foods for autoimmune diseases, we need to look for foods that strengthen the intestinal barrier and keep zonulin in check.

  1. Blows me away how so many people I know have gut problems. I tell them the solution and they shrug it off as if it’s not worth it to give up the bad eating habits. Idk it’s crazy to me. Having gut and bathroom problems are unbearable to me.

    I’d almost have to thank my autoimmune disease as it forced me to change my bad eating habits from childhood. For example I haven’t drank a soda or ate candy in 8 years. And honestly I have zero cravings for any of it. My friends call me crazy. They think I’m lying when I say I have zero desire. If I ever go back and touch any of it I feel sick immediately. Maybe I’m doing myself a disservice since I have no tolerance anymore to processed garbage. But idk I can eat basic bland home cooked food and I’m good to go. I just wish the basic stuff was more accessible.

    Unfortunately 99% of fast food is just toxic garbage so I understand why people aren’t willing to help themselves as it means a decent amount of meal prepping. Takes a why’ll to change the habit as bad food is 100% an addiction. It’s just so prevalent in society people don’t see it that way.

    • Exactly. People have been weakened with all the convenience that modern lifestyles offer them, they became used to it and now have trouble to even face the slightest challenges.

    • In the same boat now for 200 days which turned off my autoimmune disorders. My GP is astounded and now saving $3800 out of pocket a year by discontinuing meds. Having great success adapting Cajun recipes using the right fats.

Diagnosed with MS last year – thank you for bringing light to these diseases. So many people I know (not even 30) have something autoimmune – massive growing problem. Our diets, environment, stress levels are all worse than they were in the past most likely…

    • Stress spikes were way way in the past ……it’s prolonged lower lever but needless stress that’s a new phenomenon
      Most serfs and slaves had terrible stress spikes ofc

    • @Penderyn mhmm think you’re correct – long term low grade stress continuously by the increased complexity of daily life likely has a big impact. Also, as Dr. Eric suggests, our disassociation with nature and being stuck at desk jobs the entire day is also a big factor.

  4. I was c-sectioned and was not breast fed. Grew up eating candy, fast food and microwave dinners. Diagnosis with Crohn’s disease at 16. Had 2 intestinal resections right off the bat. Then another one 10 years later. Was put on a biological chemo like medicine at 16 and was on it for over 10 years. The pain pills I was given in my teens led me to my 10 year heroin addiction, homelessness and jail. In my mid 30s the effects of crohns and 3 intestinal resections are still taking a huge toll on me day after day. I’m sober now, god is in my life and I’m eating beautifully, foods from a local farm and watching videos like bergs. Wish I had this information and drive to find health before I was diagnosed but I guess that’s how we learn. Ladies please breast feed your kids and get no c sections if you can help it. Let’s change this medical paradigm we live in.

    • @A O additionally, at least in the UK, there is a protocol that the baby should have skin to skin contact within the first hour of their life with either parent to acquire some of our microbiome. Some hospitals refer to it as the Baby’s “Golden Hour”.

    • @A O it is sometimes referred to as the ‘probiotic gulp’ when the baby comes through the birth canal and gets probiotics from the mother. I’ve heard of C-section babies getting a swipe of probiotics from mother’s birth canal done manually after birth 😊

Thank you Dr Berg 🌸 I’ve recently thought I suffered from a food reaction, but I was told by a GP that it’s likely to be a flare of eczema in my hand; due to the cold snap or even stress, I’ve noticed how better it got when I consume foods like tuna or salmon, also I recently used your vitamin D3 & K2 supplement, and I’ve noticed how quick my hand started to improve, plus the tamanu oil you recommended in one of your earlier videos. Can’t thank you enough for what you’ve taught us so far & all the valuable health knowledge we learn from you on daily basis 🙏😊

    • @Sabrina and husband she had something like this last winter season as well for two three weeks but then it got better and completely fine during the summers and this winter again it started happening, if it was RA then I can’t link it to this season thing like why it happens at this particular time only but yeah it’s better to get checked.

    • @Sabrina and husband i suspect it has to do something with the diet because in winters some of the vegetables change in our diet, it could be a possibility that she’s allergic to some vegetable which as a result is causing inflammation.

    • @Abhishek Pandey it could be. Difficult to say until she start to eat one day and stop in the next eating what she thinks is causing her this allergy ( hopefully not RA).

      In winters we have more intake of spinach not sure if it’s due to that because in Summers we consume it a lot less than winters.
      Rest, we are going to see a doctor.

  6. I have severe ankylosing spondylitis. The food that causes me the worst inflammation is vegetable oils its so much worse than even sugar or refined carbs. After eating anything with it in it i can feel the inflammation within minutes even in places like my hands where AS isn’t supposed to affect. The best foods for me have been fatty meats.

    • I’d start with a strict elemination diet; basically carnivore and slowing add 1 food at a time and see how you react.

    • You must have to be 100% disciplined in avoiding sugar in any form, food made of white flower, all milk products, coffee, alcohol, even red meat. Chicken and fish is ok. No frying. Get glukosamine, Vit C, magnesium, zink, calcium. Eat plenty of salads and slightly cooked vegetables. Add olive oil, apple cider vinegar. Drink green+mint teas. My brother got completely cured this way.

  11. I have been suffering with Celiac Disease since birth. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was in my 40’s. It was a challenge at first to adjust my diet. I was able to get my hands on a book called Wheat Free Worry Free by Danna Korn. It has helped me but eventually I learned that I have to avoid all grains.   15. This information is so interesting. I’ve learned such a lot from you Dr Berg, and I share a lot of the information with friends. The first thing that came into my mind when you spoke about our very complex immune system is what King David said to God in Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because in an awe-inspiring way I am wonderfully made”. We have so much more knowledge about the human body than King David had so we should appreciate even more the wonderful way in which we were created.

    Genital Licken Sclerosus, nowadays, is affecting more and more young people and, online, so much controversy exists even amongst top class ‘experts’ and doctors/specialists, that to navigate through it all is quite a skill – and often a daunting research – due to lack of certainty on what should or should not be eaten. For instance, potatoes are good for some researchers and not for others, equally so for so many other items!

    In this video, Dr Berg, you explain how fructose is also not favourable for people with autoimmune conditions.

    Does it mean that all fruit (and even some vegetables) should not be eaten at all – when one has auto immune conditions with genital lychen sclerosus in particular?

    The risk of the genital orifice closing up completely and the possibility of cancerous cells growing, with this type of autoimmune condition, requires a thorough understanding of what can and cannot be eaten.

    To find out, specifically in genital lychen sclerosus, what is or is not allowed, is more than frustrating – due to such contrary points of view and information from well- meaning and highly qualified people.

    Should anyone know how to help with a specifically itemised food list, of definite vegetables, etc. that can be eaten …

  18. Can we appreciate how Dr. Berg keeps looking better and better? If we take a look at videos from just a year ago, you can see the difference his health/diet modifications have made. Inspiration for us to keep improving our lifestyles. I lost 30lbs but still need to reduce sugars because once a week I have a slice of cake and I’d like to eliminate the unnecessary sugars completely. Thanks for the videos, Dr. Berg!

  19. Hello Dr. Berg. I have Sjogren’s syndrome. Had gastric bypass in 2012, have had a right thyroid ectomy, and have had my gallbladder removed. What are your suggestions for me? Love all the info! TIA ❤️

  20. Because of Dr Berg I eat raw cabbage daily, I drink green tea, I don’t eat sweets nor drink them. I am gradually pushing away refined grains and consuming more conciferous greens. He also led me to try intermittent fasting. I am becoming a brand new man at 55. Thank you Dr Berg for all you do for us
