Today Iโ€™m going to share the best remedies for acne. When a person has acne, multiple things are happening at once.

The oil glands are called sebaceous glandsโ€”they make oil or sebum. Usually, the sebaceous glands are inflamed, enlarged, and producing too much oil.

Typically, bacteria are also involved, affecting the immune system and creating more inflammation.

One of the biggest causes of acne is a shift in hormones. But, a high-carb diet and frequent eating can also cause acne. Itโ€™s essential to get on a low-carb diet and do intermittent fasting to help get rid of acne fast.

Another one of the top acne causes is a deficiency in vitamin D. Vitamin D can regulate bacteria involved in acneโ€”itโ€™s a potent antibacterial. If you're deficient in vitamin D, you wonโ€™t be able to control acne-causing microbes.

Vitamin D also supports the sebaceous glands to help reduce swelling of the glands and oil production.

The best natural remedies for acne:
1. Take vitamin D3 (20,000 IU)
2. Get on the Healthy Ketoยฎ diet
3. Do intermittent fasting
4. Stop scrubbing your skin
5. Consume cod liver oil
6. Consume fatty fish

  1. Six remedies to get rid of acne:
    1. Take vitamin D3 (20,000 IU)
    2. Healthy keto diet
    3. Intermittent fasting
    4. Stop rubbing the skin
    5. Cod liver oil
    6. Fatty fish

  2. My gosh, low vitamin D3 is responsible for so many ailments. For you folks out there thinking you can’t fast just know I was like you until this man got me off sugar and intermittent fasting 18 months ago. I now IF daily on an 18:6 and never get very hungry. As I turned into a “veteran” later on I now routinely go on 2-5 day fasts every 2 months. The feeling you get at around 36 to 40 hours beats any street drug out there. Your not hungry at all, your full of energy, for some reason your extremely happy and productive and you could care less when your next meal will be. Ah the power of ghrelin! Best thing I ever did was going on this program, losing all that weight and getting off all those prescriptions I was on.

  3. Well, what’s your view on the acids, serums and peptides and all the stuff? Are there any side effects? And would like to see more skincare videos ๐Ÿค— Thanks a ton

    • Just introduce yourself to the wonderful Korean skincare. They are all natural. Especially if you live in the US, dont use shelf brands.

  4. My uncle introduced me to ur channel 2 years ago..he is no more with us..we lost him due to COVID.u r great help doc to us.really thankful..to get information about our problems. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Great work

  5. No wonder I had acne as a teenager. I wish I had Dr. Berg then, it would’ve changed my life.๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’œ

  6. I had horrible acne on my back as a teen and early 20s. Once I started eating well , quitting sugar and started drinking more water it cleared up. I actually went to dermatologist over it and what a waste of time. Itโ€™s really easy to see where your going wrong if your honest with yourself and take a look at your behaviors

    • @Stefanie Dr. Berg is correct about diet. Also, some foods are hormone disruptors; for me, it was dairy, sugar, and too many carbs (carbs are sugar too). Now I eat more of a Paleo diet. The transition was hard, as sugar is just as addictive as cocaine. Your brain will practically beg for it as you detox from unhealthy eating habits.

Nevertheless, you still need to clear up your existing acne infection. Last year I caved in and tried another dermatologist. She prescribed a topical of 5% benzoyl peroxide and 1% clindamycin. I was skeptical, as benzoyl peroxide alone had never worked for me in the past. Iโ€™m telling you, I was blown away. My adult acne completely cleared up. After years of being prescribed antibiotics that unknowingly destroyed my gut health and countless topicals and procedures that did absolutely nothing as well, I have finally found what works for me – clean eating and the benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin to kill the infection in your skin. I hope this helps you. I know how demoralizing acne can make you feel. Good luck, @Stefanie.

    • I used to envy the girls who had smooth even toned acne free skin when it came to their upper arms and backs. They would wear cute tank tops and their backs were just clear and I just couldn’t understand as a teen why my skin couldn’t be clear like theirs. My parents didn’t suffer with acne yet there I was suffering lol and the meds dermatologists prescribed just made me sick.

    • Even i am also having same issue, even consulted with a dermatologist which waste of time, i am foodie also .plz suggest what needs to be done plzz

    • @manikandan gopal please take it with K2 to avoid kidney stones! D3 gets in soft tissue and organs without K2 found in sauerkraut, dark meat chicken, eggs and some organ meats.

  7. Vitamin D deficiency seems to be the base for almost every issue! I started having issues with acne @ 52-53 BEFORE I discovered IR! It had gotten better with time (increased D) cut back on carbs, but unfortunately Iโ€™ve been left with scaring on my pink skin because of it. The acne that I deal with is like grains of sand under my skin. Itโ€™s been, almost, traumatizing whatโ€™s its done to my skin and self esteem!

    • @Leah Gail ๐Ÿ”ฎ it looks like keratosis Pilaris. For your body You can apply Amlactin, twice a day.
For your face you can apply an exfoliant, a good one is the AHA 30% from the ordinary, just once per week.
And did you test your blood sugar? It could be diabetes or insulin resistance.

    • This sounds like rosacea. I donโ€™t have the super red cheeks, but i have those bumps and rosacea treatments help more than acne treatments. Worth a try. A clue is if acids and retinol type stuff doesnโ€™t work for you or makes it worse.

    • @Kate-o No, itโ€™s not rosacea as I donโ€™t have the red patchy inflammation that goes with it. My ex husband has rosacea, so Iโ€™m familiar with it. I treat it with colloidal silver gel and retinol, which probably isnโ€™t strong enough. Itโ€™s better than it use to be, but still aggravating, and itโ€™s mostly on the left side of my face.

    • @Sarah Been several years since Iโ€™ve been tested for diabetes, but I really donโ€™t have symptoms for that. Now, the Insulin Resistance, most likely, yes. Iโ€™ve had improvements since going Keto and (mostly) carnivore. And! Itโ€™s only on the left side of my face! I keep my pillow cases changed frequently and washed in hot water with bleach or baking soda and vinegar to kill any bacteria.

    • @Kate-o You can see by my profile picture, ๐Ÿ˜‰ I donโ€™t have rosacea, but I appreciate the comment!

  8. Your tip on intermittent fasting absolutely helped to cure my acne, but I am actually wanting to gain weight right now so I’m looking forward to hearing these other remedies as well ๐Ÿ™‚

    • He has advice on that in several videos about IF and Keto. If you want to gain weight, you need more calories, so you might want to consume more healthy fat in your diet.

    • If you’re already doing LCHF diet or KETO and wanting to gain weight, I’d recommend lifting heavier weights (provided you are lifting correctly), and of course, increasing your caloric intake. If you have a hard time eating more, but do okay with nuts and seeds, I’d recommend eating your regular diet, and adding healthy nuts or pure nut butter. Whether it’s macadamias, pistachios, walnuts, or pecans (my choices), you’d be able to add weight fairly quickly.

Considering your goal is to gain weight, you’re someone who can drink the bulletproof coffee and look past the need to avoid additional healthy fats. Not that this matters, but being a former athlete that played and worked out at a VERY high level regularly (because it was my job) compared to now, these things seem to work extremely well for me to maintain or gain, provided you aren’t sedentary.

      GOOD LUCK!!! YOU GOT THIS!!

OH YEAH, and don’t forget: ADEQUATE SLEEP IS KEY!!

  9. When I was 16 I fasted for several days before Prom so I would look good in my dress. My acne surprisingly also went away! So, I knew my acne was at least in some way food related.

  10. Surprised Zinc didn’t get a mention as it seems to be the number one nutrient in every product to deal with acne

  11. One thing I actually never had to deal with is acne , I feel so bad for anyone that deals with acne I had a friend back in middle and high school that had bad acne and I was her friend and she dealt with so many unbelievably rude people on a daily basis. She dealt with acne and I dealt with being overweight . Thanks Dr Berg ๐Ÿ˜Š

    • I have acne and blemishes and I donโ€™t like it, Iโ€™m 45. I am so thankful for this to be my only concern, so therefore I donโ€™t worry about my acne, I just seek ways to heal it healthy. Their are many people that have debilitating diseases, my heart goes out to them, not my acne.

  12. I had acne in my teens Dr Berg and it distressed me so much. I was put on the worst thing, antibiotics. I then went on to develop Candida Albicans and chronic fatigue in my early 20’s. So wished I’d had this information… I take vitamin D now and I would recommend it to my daughter…

    • Me too. Those antibiotics destroyed my health and didn’t do much for the acne. And I too ended up with a systemic candida infection that I cleared up with…………wait for it……………..keto diet.

  13. 50 years ago when I visited my first dermatologist and he said to stop the sweets, chips and French fries and junk foods like that along with taking vitamin A and using dial soap (antibacterial) and the acne will clear up. It sure did. Even now at 63, if I eat potato chips I get a breakout.

  14. As a male personally I believe me being lactose intolerant since I was a baby, I feel like I’ve lacked sufficient vitamins like Vitamin D growing up and it had alot to do with my severe acne as a teen and all the way into my adult life at 43 I’ve only gotten it under control in the past 4-5 years. Left with alot of enlarged pores and scaring though.

  15. I can say personally I’ve had quite bad acne on my face since teenage years, and even in my early twenties I am still suffering from it. I have noticed that, even though it doesn’t go away completely, it gets SO much better when I stop eating sugars from some days, and I treat my face with tea tree oil and hip rose oil. I have also tried hip rose berries infusion and I put it on my face which also helps lots. Some days I still eat some desserts on holidays and some days later I get some bad acne, It’s difficult avoiding it when you have a sweet tooth…

  16. Never had acne but I grew up with no sugar, soda, etc. and we ate a lot of fresh foods. Hated it as a young child, as an adult thank goodness my parents had such andietโค

  17. I got rid of my acne that lasted all the way into my 30s without going keto. Definitely not a necessary step. I find that how much sugar I eat had no impact on my skin, whereas eating low quality/highly processed foods and foods with refined seed oils did give me breakouts. A combination of reducing stress, getting more sun and exercise, and getting proper nutrition and sleep are what made my acne go away. Basically, just become healthier, and it will show in your skin.

  18. He missed zinc and a lot of other important factors in clearing up breakouts. I agree with him about fish oils and vitamin A. Different types of acne respond to different treatments. Acne can be due to so many different factorsโ€ฆ a genetic tendency of over proliferation of skin cells, pore clogging makeup, food allergies, INCORRECT use of skincare products, etc. He gets around this I guess by saying โ€œtypicallyโ€ฆโ€
