Today we're going to talk about the absolute worst food for the heart: trans fats. While sugar is bad for the heart, trans fats are even worse. In 2015, the FDA no longer classified trans fats as safe.

Consuming trans fats increases the risk of several serious health issues, including:
• Heart attack
• Stroke
• Type 2 diabetes
• Cancer
• Increased LDL
• Decreased HDL
• Inflammation
• Autoimmune diseases
• Infertility
• Tendon and bone degeneration

Partially hydrogenated oils contain trans fats, but products that contain either partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated fats should be avoided to help protect against heart disease and other health problems.

It turns out that animal feed still contains trans fats. This means that you could consume trans fats indirectly by consuming animals fed trans fats. Restaurants also commonly serve foods containing trans fats.

There's even a loophole that allows half of a gram of trans fats in one serving size to claim that a product has zero trans fats. Overall, it's crucial to read food labels and be aware of what you're eating, especially at restaurants.

  1. Nursing home food killed my grandfather. He checked himself in at 96 because he had leg injuries from several farm accidents over the years. He was farming 5 acres of land by himself until he was 94. Other than the legs, he was in good shape health wise. He ate mostly homemade soup at home, particularly chicken and beef. When he went into the nursing home, they fed him highly processed, trans fat types of food. He ended up having gall bladder problems and died from that. He had family that lived to be well over 100, such as his mother (116), a cousin (111), etc and would have probably been the same way if not for processed food.

    • So sad for you Polly. They do not feed the elderly healthy food at all. In my opinion they don’t care what oil they use. It’s abput savings and not health. Sorry you lost your Dad.

  3. After following Dr Berg, and other enlightened YouTubers during the last twelve months, when I visit the local supermarket I just see rows and rows of poisons; it’s no wonder that the corporate establishment wants to control the internet.

    • Same here. You stop recognizing the processed stuff with printed labels as ‘food’ and just walk right past it.

    • Indeed! If you took out all the isles of food we don’t need, we are left with about 2 isles, possibly less! Crazy!

  4. Very honest of you to admit! I myself horrified myself after eating, say, an oven pizza – and then realising it serves 4! A good tip that I have adopted is use your large plates to serve your salads/veg, and a very small plate for everything else (per person). I detest how food companies are making everyone ill, just to increase the profit for the shareholders. I bet the ones at the top, don’t eat their own products!

    • My thoughts completely. The CEO’s of these companies have probably never been into the kitchens of their homes to where the personal chef’s prepare the food which is of the highest quality.

    • @Concrete , raw dairy is illegal in Canada. Although exceptions are starting to be made for certain raw cheeses, under strict rules.

    • @Ottee2 don’t know about present, used to be able to buy direct from farm only US. Have a friend, years ago, bought raw online, frozen solid southern ORyGone, couple days later arrived NW ORyGone, just a little ice left… Ice cold raw milk. They’d be in a lather when it arrived!😋

  6. I appreciate this video. I’ve been SUPER stressed out these last few weeks and I have been eating HORRIBLY. Processed foods, fast foods, junk, candy, you name it!! I have to get myself back on track and realize I’m only hurting myself even MORE on top of the stress.

    • @gollybox been avoiding / limiting sugar for 1 year. yesterday, just for fun, i ate 2 doughnuts and 2 pieces of cake. woke up with sore knees. funny how the body works.

    • Fasting will do a lot to reverse any bad thing you may have done recently. Relax and do the next right thing .

    • You are not alone. I started a new job and have been eating my stress. But I don’t want to stay here in these bad habits.

    • You’re NOT the only beloved, many of us fall of the wagon. Knowing we know better!! I will tell you since I stopped eating ALL GLUTEN products, my body felt better. Still have a ways to go….but I too fell off my wagon in 2020….so it’s been 2 plus years…i was Vegan for 2 Yrs….Life happens lost my Dad in 2020…life has been definitely challenging.   7. The way Dr. Eric Berg represents each episode about health, which is absolutely awesome and also informs us indirectly that we humans are left nothing to eat except organic fruits and vegetables and eaw water (not the ro water).
    Now, no matter how much you earn and you still live like a beggar, if not, the rich have to consume the currencies 😊

  8. Since discovering Dr. Berg’s channel here a little over a month ago, my whole lifestyle has changed. Threw out corn oil and replaced it with organic virgin olive oil, got rid of my “fat free” nestle coffee mate creamer, cut out all sugar and 90% of carbs, and got my elderly parents on a very similar cleansing and healthier diet along with smarter food choices to consume and it made all the difference. They haven’t used their diabetes pills (which they’ve been living on taking them multiple times daily for the past 20+ years) in over a month as the readings are always at or bellow 120 when theirs would be between 150-220 daily before. They feel great and lost a lot around the waist and feel healthier. Dr. Thank you, you are God sent 🙏 with your invaluable information changing lives daily.

  9. Back in the early 90’s I worked for a natural yogurt maker. One day our mechanic, who also worked for other companies as well, came in with a huge lump of fully hydrogenated food oil he had picked up at another of the food companies he worked for. It was like a lump of grey/white plastic. Quite hard. We all stood around wondering how us humans had been so programmed that we would eat that.

    • I’ve noticed when rinsing dishes that saturated fat will rinse completely off with just water but “vegetable oils” will remain no matter how much water you use to rinse.

  12. I’m 50 this year and 21 stone. I was 24 stone 3 years ago then lost 4 stone but due to my long hours and sedentary job it’s creeping back on. I’ve started Keto and lost almost 10lb in two weeks with the aim of losing 4 stone. I’ve eaten loads of steak, fish, chicken, fish, some green veg and cheese and loads of eggs. I’ve cut out processed stuff and added sugar and I feel so much better. The food industry is in league with big pharma. The food companies ruin your health with the poison in it, meaning you become dependant on meds for the rest of your days and paying them forever. Videos like this have changed my attitude to food completely. I don’t even crave this stuff now. Life changing.

  13. Been avoiding Hydrogenated anything for 20 years now. I also been avoiding HFCS’s and fake sugars, especially aspartame. So far… not high BP or any serious health concerns. I must admit I still have a sweet tooth I am psychologically fighting.
    I have a saying… If you are eating Margarine, it is almost the same as melting the plastic container and spreading that on your toast.

  16. Great video! It reinforced my need to always read nutrition labels also the ingredient list and learn what any chemical sounding ingredient really is. On a side note, I’ve had Roam Sticks from Singing Pastures and they are delicious. A little costly, maybe, but if you’re eating healthy Keto and IF, you don’t need to be gorging 12 sticks in one sitting. 😊

When trans fats came out, I was in college, and my friend that was taking upper-level chemistry told me to stay away from trans fats. ” There’s something not right about them.” That always stuck in my head as I read the ingredient lists. ‘High fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil ….” was at the top of the list in so many products.

  19. I’ve been IF’ing off and on over the last 20 years. I found your videos in January of this year, 2023, and as instructed, I watched your video on a beginners guide to IF and Ketosis. I started on January 22nd, and as of today, March 4th, I’ve lost 18lbs and dropped three pant sizes following you and another intelligent YouTubers advice to the latter. Thank you.
