Magnesium comes in many different forms. Today, I want to cover magnesium threonate or magnesium L-threonate.

This is a specific type of magnesium. Threonate transports magnesium across the blood-brain barrier to the hippocampus.

The hippocampus is involved in memory, learning, focus, and concentration. People typically take magnesium L-threonate when they want to support the brain.

A magnesium deficiency can lead to various issues related to the brain and throughout the body.

Benefits of magnesium L-threonate:
• It may help reduce worry and anxiety (especially when trying to sleep)
• It may help decrease neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration
• It’s a calcium regulator and antagonist
• It helps maintain and support the blood-brain barrier
• It can act as an antioxidant
• It helps support BDNF
• It may help with androgenic alopecia

If you want to use magnesium to support the brain, I would use magnesium threonate. To support other issues like cramping or fatigue or to support the heart, I would take magnesium glycinate. Magnesium citrate can be helpful as well, especially to help prevent kidney stones.

  1. Dr Berg you have become my number one man to provide me with everything from healthy keto, sleep, mental health and anything else I need to make my body be its best 👌 I’m 51 female 5’2 45kg .. my skin and hair I’ve seen a improvement also I’m no longer blotted. I don’t get hungry and i don’t miss any of the bad foods i ones ate. I do have to up my carbs a little.. what would be the best food to do that 🤔

  2. Thanks for another short informative video.
Following another of your videos on Magnesium Glycinate I decided to try taking it as a supplement, with unexpected results.
For over 50 years I have suffered from a recurring nightmare, at least one or two times a week. It was brought on by an extremely stressful episode in my early twenties. I always assumed it was a form of ‘post traumatic stress disorder’ and I would just have to live with it disturbing my sleep.
Within days of starting to take Magnesium Glycinate the nightmares stopped and have not returned!
A very unexpected outcome, but very welcome.

  3. I prayed to God “how can I help my brain to learn?”
And this video from you, came out a few days later. Talking about timing!
Much thanks and I see you on the other site!❤

    • Great 👍 Some of the other Dr Berg’s videos /articles on learning, on focus / concentration and on the brain 🧠 may help with more data.

  4. Started using 2 grams a day of this 3 months ago (contains ~150 mg elemental magnesium), this with 400 mg NMN and 15 mg Methylene Blue and I’m doing so much better for both energy and cognitive function. Best price I’ve found so far for powdered Magnesium L Threonate (AKA Magtein) is about 14 dollars for 50 grams, not cheap! I suspect these two added supplements; NMN and MB, help more senior individuals far more than the young but I’ve heard reports middle aged adults can also be helped by the increased ATP production all three of these supplments can affect, just that as you age less and less is made, so the supplements can turn the clock back far more for older individuals.

  5. Surprisingly magnesium citrate was the onebi saw moat improvements. It was crazy. I would sleep all day and i started magnesium citrate with krill oil and it was crazy

  6. 5:08

3:22 MG (Magnesium ) combined with D and K2 , can keeps calcium from building up, out of joints, kidneys, brain, arteries 3:05 (hypercalcemia diagram )
    4:08 helps with oxidative stress🧠 😬🧠
5:14 MG Threonate for brain issues 🧠, Mg Glycinate for cramping, fatigue , heart issues, , Mg Citrate same as mgGlycinate, also prevents kidney stones

  7. This video should be all over the place. I’ve been taking Magnesium L-Threonate for nearly a decade now. It’s unbelievable how good it is.

  8. Magnesium threonate has made a huge difference at night for me – fibromyalgia symptoms less since I can actually sleep

  9. I’ve started taking a bunch of supplements a couple of months ago to improve my general health and my eczema. Magnesium is the one that had the most tangible effect on my body.

Less lower back pain, better sleep, less stress. I also recommended to a colleague and their chronic back problems are essentially gone as well! It’s remarkable really.

  10. This doctor needs to be cloned and put into every medical school to re-educate doctors with correct information about health.
He is brilliant, and a gem of a person to anyone with common sense about how to improve their health in a sustained way.
I just love learning from his simple to understand videos … I respect this man immensely. 👍👍👍

  11. I’m really glad that you’re making this video.another great video. Doctor Berg. My doctor talks about the brain a lot too. Always great to learn more about the brain.

  12. FANTASTICALLY IMPORTANT info. involving Magnesium today, Dr. Berg. I was “unaware” of this THIRD SIGNIFICANT TYPE of Magnesium.

Many thanks for the wonderfully enlightening reveal. 👍😎

  13. I began taking Magnesium L-Threonate almost 6 months ago to help me sleep, and it works. I assumed my brain fog had disappeared due to better sleeping, but now I suspect my lucidity, clearer focus and sharper memory recall are due to magnesium L-Threonate.
