Let’s talk about the interesting relationship between vitamin D and cortisol.

When you’re under chronic stress, vitamin D is less absorbed in your gut.

The building block for vitamin D is the same building block for cortisol. That building block is cholesterol. But, when you go through stress, your cholesterol is used to build more cortisol than vitamin D.

However, you need plenty of vitamin D when you go through stress. Many people aren’t getting the vitamin D they need. The more stress someone has, the more vitamin D they need.

In my opinion, the solution isn’t just increasing vitamin D but also cholesterol—making sure you have plenty of fat in your diet.

The best ways to balance vitamin D and cortisol:
1. Get more vitamin D
2. Get plenty of magnesium
3. Consume more zinc
4. Take adaptogens
5. Exercise
6. Get quality sleep
7. Consume sea salt
8. Get more sun
9. Consume vitamin B1
10. Take AHCC before bed

    • @@christopherwg4236 ive been on clonazepam for years now and have been thinking if it has anything to do with it. I just recently learned that that was supposed to be for only 3 to 4 months and my doctor has had me on it for years. I will do more research and talk to him about weaning me off of it. I know it will be hard.

  3. Happy Christmas 🤶 to Dr.Berg & his helpers as you really make a lot of difference to people out there to get well & active 😊 advice to better living. Appreciate.

  4. Your earlier videos on absorption of vitamin D helped me at a new level. But I’ll try work on de-stress activities more.

  5. how does DHEA fit into all of this? I know that DHEA and cortisol ‘do a dance’, and are interrelated. I would love to hear you discuss the relationship between them as well.

  6. Takeaways:
    1. When higher the stress, lesser the Vitamin D.
    2. Cortisol and Vitamin D is made of cholesterol. Vitamin D is more of a hormone than Vitamin.
    3. So High stress, Low Vitamin D .
    4. Stress leads to AutoImmune diseases. Just to note, Cortisol is stress hormone. It paralyses immune system (indirectly Anti inflammatory also less ) and reduces white blood cells.
    5. Prednisone.. synthetic form of cortisol since cortisol is a anti inflammatory.
    6. Cortisol is also have cortisol resistance.
    7. Generally, Vitamin D is recommended for anti inflammatory and to treat autoimmune diseases
    8. Generally RDA for Vitamin D is 600 iu. But for more benefits like anti-inflammatory and if you consider absorption rate and absorption barriers, older age, brown skin so we can take 10 to 50 thousand iu.
    9. Generally a person has high cortisol and low vitamin D.
    10. Cortisol and Vitamin D is inversely proportional. So taking vitamin d can reduce stress.

  7. The majority of your recommendations over the years have helped my overall health !
Looking at your following confirms you are helping others as well !
Health knowledge is a powerful tool if you use it ! 👍

  8. Thank you so much for this insightful information, Dr Berg. I’m taking most of them and it’s helping me to recover from long covid. I’m so grateful for your continuous advice and support 🙏🏻

  9. Dr Berg, I had pheochromosytoma and have only 1 adrenal gland. I often struggle with keeping my energy level up. Would using more vitamin d help or what would you recommend?

  10. Thanks for your video Dr Berg. I would add to your list Anapana and Vipassana Meditation. Those 2 work directly to stress sources in our mind, and eventually, with discipline, stress goes away and the whole body gets better.

  11. I can’t thank you enough,Dr berg. You are like a knight in the shining armour for me. I diagnosed my vit B1 deficiency after watching your video and i have been suffering from severe neurological symptoms due to vit b1 deficiency.I even went into depression due to it. And no dr could find out the reason behind my symptoms. I will be indebted to you all my life. You are a great doctor.I don’t know how to thank you .🙏

  12. Dr. Berg, I have felt much better since taking magnesium supplements and increasing my vitamin D. However, I can’t take it at bedtime like everyone else does. Thanks for your help.

  13. Dr. Berg, you are brilliant.
    And,
Very much loved for helping us by sharing your knowledge.
Thank you and God bless you 🙏

  14. Dr. Berg, in your list I would place Sun as number 1 and it is still free to take yet there are several conditions to consider: when to take the sunshine, how long, do not use sunscreen, use a moisturizer for the skin, do not wash the skin with soap after taking the sun, etc…Perhaps, you already have a video about it if not it would be helpful to make it. Thank you!.

  15. I needed this video I have a vitamin d deficiency and ptsd. My levels were 26. There slowing rising. It is now 33. it’s suppose to be between 30-100. I was told to take fish oil with vitamin d. My vitamin b 12 is also kinda low I think. It’s 193. It can be between 180 and like 900. What vitamin is bad to take If you have herpes. I notice I was consuming more vitamin C and I was breaking out bad on my face. I got this face wash and it had vitamin c in it. I really don’t think I can take a lot of vitamin c.

  16. Dr. Berg, sunshine makes the cholesterol in humans as Cholesterol sulfate that is used in organs like the heart. Perhaps, not getting enough sunshine is what is making people to store too much cholesterol without bing used. It would be interesting to have a video with all the technicalities about it, if you have not done it already.

  17. Thanks for this! Perfect timing, given my current health and stress issues. Would you please do a video on the best times to take vitamin d, magnesium, etc. in terms of time of day and in relation to each other?

  18. Exactly what just happened to me. I was stressed out with about 5 or 6 things happening within a week and I got a bad cold. My autoimmune system was low.

  19. Thank you so much Doctor Berg, it’s so great advice and fantastic content. Merry Christmas and happy new year dr Berg ❤
