Please join me in welcoming Dr. Eric Westman. Dr. Westman is an M.D. and a Master's-level statistician. He explains how researchers often manipulate data reports by misleadingly presenting information. He also explains the difference between absolute risk and relative risk and how it can be used for this purpose.

Observational studies can also misleadingly present information because they cannot prove causation. Many recent studies in the news demonizing red meat and fasting were observational self-reported studies. These studies involve a person recalling what they ate days, weeks, and even months ago!

What's the purpose of observational studies if they can't prove causation? Observational studies are known as “hypothesis-generating studies," so they generate a hypothesis for a formal experiment.

One of the most recent misleading studies, the Stanford twin experiment, gained popularity on Netflix. The study had several flaws and was funded by a plant-based organization to promote a plant-based diet.

The School of Public Health at Harvard University is researching nutritional epidemiology using observational studies involving diet recall. These studies result in misleading associations between things like red meat and heart disease and red meat and cancer. According to Dr. Westman, nutritional epidemiology only presents weak associations and should not be regarded as fact.

  1. I remember when one famous indian girl died of doing keto and it made national news, my relatives were asking me about it, all the while countless people were dying everyday of cardiac arrest, no one puts that in national news.

    • Yeah, isnt that interesting.. just like any natural way of becoming healthier is all the time attacked with false claims, while medical “science” is killing people left and right, directly and indirectly, slowly and immediately.. and no mainstream media meantions a word about this never ever..

    • They probably left out relevant info. Such as was she anorexic, was she bulimic, was she diabetic, did she have any other underlying health malady, did she have a birth defect, did she have an accident, etc.

    • I think you’re guilty of underestimating human stupidity. There was a guy who had to be hospitalized for drinking a potentially fatal amount of water. He was trying to flush out any THC before a drug test. People can take literally ANYTHING to fatal extremes. God only knows what ELSE that girl was doing besides keto.​@@SimplyHuman186

    • Exactly. Many countries have fasting as part of their culture and those people have less health issues than western countries. The food lobby is who guides the FDA and pushes the foods they want you to eat and they are terrible for you.

    • The only reason that they didn’t die was because they presumably quit fasting and ate again.

    • Being doing it for approximately 2 + years had a hart attack at 47 now 70 fast for anywhere from 1 5 days a week

  2. Either way, they can TRY to manipulate whatever they want. I’m down (and have been down for 5 years) 130lbs, I’m an example for everyone I know and encounter, MOST important, I’m healthy! I am of sound mind and body. Now, I can take care and protect my family as a man should! Keto forever!!!! Thank you Dr Berg!!!! My family and I, are forever grateful! One Love!!

    • 40 lbs down from bad bad well water with parasites (healed by one good doc & then on my own). Even though i have still have low iron I’m better than ive been in years & I’m disabled! Do research on some place other than google🙄(They also give us answers on their own sites! They just don’t let answers be known. Wth

  4. Since I cut down on carbs and stopped eating bread, pasta, cookies and basically most sugar, my health has improved by leaps and bounds! My blood pressure is on the low end. I feel great! Elimination is perfect, and no inflammation. I’m 64 and never felt better. (my diet is mostly eggs, kefer, salmon, chicken and lots of big salads filled with all kinds of different veggies and greens.) Intermittent fasting has been a huge part of my feeling better!!

    • Sounds delicious! I’m definitely going to start eating this way as I have a lot of inflammatory issues going on.

    • I’m 10 years behind you guys and found Dr. Berg and keto when I was 49. I’ve never felt better in my life and I’ll never look back. I was so happy at the time when I discovered this, I tried telling everyone I know how to fix things. I couldn’t believe how people are so set in their ways, they didn’t even show interest. Now I just keep this to myself and online ppl who have the same interests. Good luck on the next half of our lives. 😊

  6. I started keto almost 3 months ago, and I never knew anything about keto before. I work at a chocolate factory, so I have unlimited free access to good quality chocolate plus lots of other sweets. I cut out all sugars and carbs. I eat beef, eggs, dairy, vegetables, and fruits. I can’t believe how much energy I have now. I used to always be tired. I went on a 3 day water fast that ended up turning into a 7 day fast. I didn’t feel hungry at any point of the fast, plus I had lots of energy, and my shoulders never slumped over. I’ve no interest in returning to how I use feel. I also gave up alcohol 100%, I never drank much before, but I used to enjoy it.

This discussion reminds me just how hard it is to get insurance to cover a glucose monitor, when must of Americans are pre-diabetic and just don’t know the medical system just eagerly awaits the official beginning or diagnosis so they then can prescribe medications and perhaps receive kickbacks. 🤔 who in leadership would be bold enough to not only call out this behavior but to force corrections and educate Americans early on! AND like me, people don’t have to look obese to need these changes for their health.

  8. When I heard an Irish professor who worked for Nestle and Coca-Cola, totally dismiss a GP who had the temerity to suggest sugar caused weight gain, and then take over the entire interview I knew food research is completely corrupt. He said that an avocado was far worse for you then a coke

  9. Dr. Berg, I understand why a drug company would commission a study on keto to say keto is bad for you, that benefits them by getting you to take their drugs instead. But who stands to benefit from attacking intermittent fasting?

    • If people get healthier from intermittent fasting, they would need less medical care and fewer pharmaceutical interventions….

    • Intermittent fasting means less diabetics depending on drugs to survive, less people depending on high blood pressure medication, less people depending on heart disease medications etc. Keto and fasting are attacked by big pharma since they both essentially improve your health almost for free in comparison to other pharmaceutical and medical alternatives. This has potential to wipe off billions of profit from the medical and pharmaceutical industry and they are noticing it.

  10. I was on a 17hour fast and did have dehydration totally my fault for not drinking enough fluids. Ended up in the ER…i was scolded by the ER doctor not about drinking fluids but for fasting! Told me the body needs food to operate. Crazy!

    • We get a lot of our fluid from food as well so a double whammy.
      He’d be right if you don’t have much fat reserves 🤷‍♂️

  12. I just finished a Nutrient Science class at Harvard Medical School and it was awful! For example, they teach that seed oils like canola and corn are healthy, white potatoes for diabetics, and whole grains. Red meat is bad as well as fats. I only took the class because as a doctor of natural medicine, I wanted to see for myself what was being taught in a Western medicine school. If we listened to that, it’s no surprise there is so many people with T2D and other metabolic diseases. It’s criminal- yet we are the ones that are touted as “woowoo” and snake oil…

  13. My dad was a petroleum engineer. He quit the biz in 1955 due to the corruption, and the fact that “the biz” was killing all life on our planet. We went from being wealthy to being poor. He became a farmer and we lived in the corn fields of Illinois. I could not be more proud of him for standing up for the truth and scientific data, that was being suppressed by the petro industry. For the doKtors who go along with the lies, I have to wonder how they sleep at night.

    • It’s unfortunate he isnt around to see the change. The industry is far different than then. But more people don’t even know what that looks like because they have been conditioned to see fossil fuels as evil and don’t listen to anything else.

  14. Fasting has helped me a lot. Not only weight loss but other health benefits. I’ve lost 15 kilograms since 2 years ago. In 2022 I lost the first 8 or 9 kilograms and was struggling to lose the next 9 kilograms last year. I cheated too often on the keto, drinking alcohol too often, baked nuts with the rancid oils, pizzas, pasta cakes and chocolate bars while trying to burn it off at gym. Then in January this year I reviewed my diet and saw a need to clean it up. I removed the baked nuts, eliminated alcohol 🍷, not sweet treats at all, increased my protein with red meat and wild salmon, green vegetables 🥬. Without so much exercise other than walking I dropped from 67kgs to 62kgs in 6 weeks.
